    Joshua tree is one of my favorite national parks. The campsites are all so unique and you're able to choose among sites tucked away in the huge boulders. The only problem is that the campsites tend to fill up very quickly, so you have to get there early. Especially if it's a holiday or weekend. They are also transitioning to all campsites being reservation only instead of first come first serve. This will be a pain and hard for campers used to taking off on a whim. More planning required. Jumbo rocks is reservation only as of our visit in Feb 2018. The sites that are still open are marked as such, so you can get lucky and find an open site (probably not so lucky in the warmer months). But if you're planning a longer trip, the open site you find one night might be booked for the next night and you'll have to find a new site. Long story short, reserve ahead of time now to avoid the headache.
